Educator, South Highlands Elementary School

Melissa Shaw is an educator who is passionate about helping children discover their talents and creativity. She has dedicated her teaching career to scaffolding opportunities for her students to discover the joy and excitement of learning. Melissa received her National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2006 and again in 2016. Her education includes a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana State University, a Master of Education from Centenary College, and an additional 30+ hours from Louisiana Tech. She is a LAA+ Teaching Fellow for the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts. She was chosen as Caddo Parish’s Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2020. Dedicated, resourceful, and goal-driven, Melissa teaches with a strong commitment to the social and academic growth and development of every student. She is an accommodating and versatile individual with the talent to develop inspiring hands-on lessons that capture children’s imagination while building academic success.
