The Power of Kids as Decision Makers: Turbocharging Government
Is your MicroSociety government falling short in its work on behalf of its citizens? Are your citizens disconnected and disenchanted with a government that isn’t for, by, or of the people? Are they apathetic about making change? Welcome to the real world! Fortunately, there are movements afoot, in the U.S. and in other countries, to bring human-centered design (HCD) and other systems-level methods used by the private sector to help our governments innovate and center services on the needs of citizens. This is hard in practice. Come and learn about mindsets and methodologies that can help your school find the intersections between the needs of student citizens and the larger community and make your MicroSociety government more service-oriented and improve the “customer experience.” We will discuss how students inside and outside of MicroSociety government can use these same methodologies and mindsets to design solutions to the problems of their society and the school!
