Co-creating a Classroom Vision: Building Teacher-Student Trust and Safe Space for Learning
In the modern day K-12 classroom, a teacher wears many hats: field trip leader, nurse, recess monitor, math teacher… the list goes on and on! Rather than being the sole keeper of information in a classroom, how can a teacher best facilitate student learning? What creative and innovative ways can educators utilize to honor student voice and choice?
As we all know, the ideal classroom setting is achieved through intentional and purposeful classroom design. In today’s sociopolitical climate, it is increasingly important that educators continue to ensure all students are seen and understood.
Join Kimberly Tan, a mentor, coach, and curriculum writer, in her workshop, “Co-creating a Classroom Vision.” In this session, teachers will examine how to design inclusive classrooms by building a culture of trust and authenticity. Teachers will explore simple protocols that help them better understand their students and redefine their approaches to “behavior problems” or “classroom management.” Finally, teachers will explore useful activities that empower students to lead in various ways. Kimberly’s methods will inspire you to continue reimagining how students and teachers can work together to co-construct meaning from their world. Expect to innovate and collaborate with other teachers in this hands-on session!
